Getting Started with LayerFive
Overview
This guide takes you from a new account to Axis dashboards populated with your own data. Three required steps get you in. Everything after that is optional and there to add value once you're already running.
LayerFive's Onboarding module tracks your progress and links you straight to each step. You can leave and return to it at any time, and it holds your place.
Navigate to: Administration → Onboarding
How setup is structured
The Onboarding screen splits into two parts.
Core Setup is three required steps. Finish them and you're into your dashboards.
Recommended Next Steps are optional. Your dashboards are already available once your data is in, and these steps help you get more out of the platform when you're ready.
A progress ring at the top shows how far through the required steps you are.
Core Setup
Step 1: Confirm client settings
Set the basics every account needs so your numbers line up with how your business runs.
Where it takes you: Administration → System Settings
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Company name and URL | Identifies your workspace |
| Timezone | Aligns every date and daily total to your operating day |
| Currency | Reports every monetary metric in your currency |
| Week starts from | Sets which day your weekly views begin on |
Set the timezone and currency before data lands, since they affect how every downstream number is bucketed. Click Save when done.
Step 2: Connect a data source
Connect at least one platform so LayerFive can import and analyze your marketing performance. One source clears the requirement, but connect the platform you spend the most on first so your dashboards mean something immediately.
Where it takes you: Administration → Integrations
| Priority | Source | What it powers |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shopify | Order and revenue data across dashboards, Cohort Analysis, and Attribution |
| 2 | Google Ads | Google Performance dashboard, Attribution, Performance Reports |
| 3 | Meta | Meta Performance dashboard, Attribution, Creative Reporting |
| 4 | TikTok | TikTok spend and performance across channels |
On connect, LayerFive imports your available history automatically, so you start with real trends rather than an empty screen. Watch the Last Sync timestamp on each source. Connected means the account is linked. Last Sync means data has arrived. Most first syncs finish within a few hours.
Your dashboards become meaningful once at least 30 days of history are imported. For any store or ad account with a month or more of activity, that threshold is met as soon as the first sync completes.
Step 3: Add business context and goals
Tell LayerFive what your business is and what you're aiming for. This step shapes your dashboards, your attribution, and the recommendations Juno gives you. Skipping it leaves Juno guessing at generic benchmarks instead of your actual targets.
Where it takes you: Administration → Marketing Goals
There are three parts:
Business context. Your product category, what you sell, your ideal customer, and your top competitors. This is what lets LayerFive compare you against relevant benchmarks instead of the whole market.
Objective and budget. Your primary marketing goal, chosen from options like revenue growth, profitable growth, new-customer acquisition, and retention. This sets what the platform optimizes its guidance around.
Target KPIs. Set targets for the metrics that matter, across the periods you're planning against. Six metrics come preloaded: Gross Revenue, Average Order Value, Total Ad Spend, Cost per Acquisition, Marketing Efficiency Ratio, and Blended Return on Ad Spend. Enter your account-level numbers first. The channel-level and seasonality sections below are optional, so leave them for later if you're setting up quickly.
All six essentials must be filled before you can save this step.
Recommended Next Steps
These are optional. Once your data is in, your dashboards work without them.
| Step | What it's for |
|---|---|
| View your Executive Summary | Your headline metrics across every connected channel, in one view |
| View your Meta Performance dashboard | How your Meta ads are performing |
| View your Google Performance dashboard | How your Google Ads campaigns are performing |
| Create custom dashboards | Build a reporting view shaped around a specific question. Or ask Juno to build it |
| Review prebuilt reports | Ready-made reports you can run and customize |
| Review prebuilt metrics | Browse available metrics and build your own |
Read your dashboards wide-to-narrow: start with the Executive Summary for the cross-channel picture, then drill into the channel that needs attention.
Setting up tracking and your team
Two things that used to sit in core setup now live outside it, because your dashboards don't wait on them. Do them when you're ready.
Tracking (Tag Management). For LayerFive's own attribution to reach full coverage, deploy the LayerFive pixel on your site. The code generates automatically at Administration → Tag Management. Paste it into your site's head section, or into Shopify's customer events pixel settings. If your attribution coverage percentage reads low later, an undeployed pixel is almost always why. See Tag Management.
Your team (User Management). Add colleagues at Administration → User Management, assign each a role, and set a default landing page so they log in straight to the view that matters for their work. See User Management.

Troubleshooting
| Issue | Check |
|---|---|
| Data isn't appearing in dashboards | Confirm each source in Integrations shows a recent Last Sync. A source reading "Last Sync: NA" hasn't synced yet, so reconnect it |
| Dashboards look empty right after setup | The first sync may still be running, or the account has under 30 days of history. Give the sync a few hours |
| Can't save the goals step | All six business-context and objective essentials must be filled. The banner at the bottom lists what's still missing |
| Attribution coverage percentage is low | The LayerFive pixel isn't fully deployed. Revisit Tag Management |
